The story behind Mental Moves 23

Mental Moves 23 (MM23) was founded by Jess Johnson, a Licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Her journey began from both professional experience and profound personal loss, after losing her father to suicide at age 23. This inspired her to build a platform that encourages early, honest conversations about mental health and provides accessible tools for understanding emotions.

Mental health matters, always

At the heart of Mental Moves 23 is the belief that mental health conversations should begin early and be available to everyone. Through children’s books, workbooks, and creative resources, MM23 helps break down complex emotions into simple, evidence-informed tools. Our mission is to promote emotional literacy, reduce stigma, and empower individuals with practical coping skills they can use in everyday life.

What makes us different?

Mental Moves 23 teaches people how to understand mental health in everyday life, starting early and without judgment. We offer resources grounded in real mental health knowledge but presented simply, combining lived experience with professional expertise. Our creative, accessible tools like children's books and workbooks are intentionally inclusive, trauma-informed, and designed to meet people where they are.

“Mental health matters at every stage of life — and understanding our emotions is the first step toward healing, growth, and connection.”
